Where Are Belle Gibson’s Parents and Brother Now? Inside Their Lives Today

Belle Gibson’s parents, Natalie and Andrew Dal-Bello, and brother, Nick Gibson, had a lot to say following the unraveling of her cancer-faking scandal.
Belle gained fame as an Australian wellness influencer, claiming she had cured her malignant brain tumor through natural remedies which she shared on her popular app, The Whole Pantry. However, her wellness empire crumbled in March 2015 after investigative journalists exposed that she never actually had cancer.
That May, Belle admitted to Australia’s Women’s Weekly that she had lied about her illness, going on to paint a picture of a troubled upbringing in a seemingly broken home. But shortly after, her mom and stepdad, Natalie and Andrew, angrily called the magazine to inform them that, yet again, Belle had lied about much of her life.
Years later, journalists Clair Weaver and Bryce Corbett, along with Andrew and Nick, revisited the fallout in Netflix’s 2023 docuseries The Search for Instagram’s Worst Con Artist. In the two-part series, Nick shared the lasting impact of his sister’s deception, saying, “After all that happened, her words don’t matter to me anymore.”
“She’s left a big scar on me,” he continued. “It’s never gonna leave me. She’s never gonna be forgiven by me and that’s the truth.”
So where are Belle Gibson’s parents and brother now? Here’s everything to know about their lives since the cancer-faking wellness influencer was caught in her lies.
What lies did Belle Gibson tell about her family and upbringing?
Netflix
In her May 2015 interview with Women’s Weekly, Belle described having given up her childhood to take care of her older brother, who she said had autism, and mom, who had multiple sclerosis and was dealing with chronic fatigue. She also claimed she never knew her father and had been estranged from her mother for two years.
“When I started school, my mum went, ‘My daughter is grown up now,’ ” she said. “All of a sudden, I was walking to school on my own, making school lunches and cleaning the house every day. It was my responsibility to do grocery shopping, do the washing, arrange medical appointments and pick up my brother.”
Although Belle’s mom remained quiet during the rise and fall of her daughter’s wellness empire, Natalie spoke out for the first time and “set the record straight” in a June 2015 Women’s Weekly interview, where she expressed being “deeply hurt and incredibly upset” at her daughter’s partially false account of her childhood.
Though Natalie confirmed having multiple sclerosis and Belle’s father being out of the picture, she described the rest of Belle’s claims as “a lot of rubbish.”
“Belle never cared for me, her brother is not autistic and she’s barely done a minute’s housework in her life,” she said. “I’ve practically worked myself into an early grave to give that girl everything she wanted in life.”
Natalie continued, “Every time she moved house, I paid for it, whenever she needed something for [her son] Ollie, I paid for it. If she wanted a new computer, I paid for it. Phone bills, clothes, beauty treatments – you name it. And this is how she repays me.”
Andrew — who met Natalie in 2011 — added, “It’s all lies. Her mum has done everything for her. I don’t think she could ever ask for a better mother.”
In The Search For Instagram’s Worst Con Artist, Nick additionally weighed in on his sister’s claims, specifically that he is autistic, saying, “When I was growing up … I was little bit shyer and quieter than usual … but that’s who I was.”
How did Belle Gibson’s parents react to her scandal?
Netflix
In the Netflix docuseries, Andrew recalled Natalie, who told Women’s Weekly she was estranged from her daughter for four years at that point, “burst[ing] into tears” when she saw her daughter’s interview with the outlet.
“It became very overwhelming for her,” he said. “Natalie was beside herself.”
Determined to set the record straight, she urged Andrew to call the magazine the next day.
In the docuseries, journalist Corbett recalled that while Natalie initially wanted to sue the magazine, she soon began “pouring out her entire life” to him and refuting the lies. Soon after, Natalie and Andrew met the journalists for dinner to give their version of the story.
In Natalie’s June 2015 interview with Women’s Weekly, she initially condemned her daughter’s actions, saying, “I can’t tell you how embarrassed we are about what she has done.”
“We sincerely wish to apologise to anyone who was deceived by Belle,” she said. “For what small part we played in her life, we would like to say sorry.”
She added, “She’s got to look inside her own soul. The only way she is going to get forgiveness is to stop playing the victim card and spend the next few years doing nothing but charity work for cancer victims.”
Natalie was also surprised by Belle’s refusal to take accountability.
“She doesn’t seem to be sorry. There doesn’t appear to be any remorse,” she said. “I’ve never seen her cry in her life. I’m not even sure she’s capable of empathy.”
Natalie’s stance shifted just a month later when she defended her daughter to the Herald Sun and called her actions a “white lie,” per The Guardian. The outlet reported that Natalie was attempting a reconciliation with her daughter and grandson.
“Belle is allowed to tell little porky pies. Who the hell doesn’t tell a lie in their life?” she said. “Nobody complained about Belle when she was helping people and now they want to put her under the microscope.”
What has Belle Gibson’s brother Nick said about her?
Netflix
In the June 2015 Women’s Weekly story, Nick expressed that he was “really upset” by the allegations Belle made against their family.
“I’m disgusted with Belle and what she’s done,” he said. “It’s about attention. She’s always been like this.”
Although Nick told the outlet that he would like to reunite with his sister, he was unsure if he could ever forgive her.
Years later, Nick maintained his rebuttal of Belle’s allegations in The Search for Instagram’s Worst Con Artist, insisting that they had a “perfect relationship” growing up.
“We were really close, we looked the same, we had the same hair color, you know, same figure,” he said. “For years, a lot of people thought we were twins and we were stuck like glue. We had a very strong bond.”
He recalled that they “did everything together” as children but admitted that they “drifted apart” and eventually had a “falling out” before they started high school.

Although years have passed since Belle’s lies were exposed, Nick — now a father of two — still feels unsettled by his sister’s actions, and wants to keep his children away from her.
“I feel pretty upset by what she did to those families,” he told the Daily Mail in April 2024. “None of them deserved it. They were actually going through problems for real and then you’ve got Belle who’s faking cancer and pretending to fix herself and play doctor herself and all this other rubbish.”
Nick also said he thinks Belle “should be locked up, spend some time in prison and have a bit of a think about it because I don’t think she realises what she’s done to them.”
He continued, “I shouldn’t be saying this because I’m her brother but what she did was nasty. Some prison time would give her a wake-up call. The things she’s done … I don’t want my kids to be around that.”
“I’m always going to have a bit of love there for my sister,” he said. “I just hope she gets some help for herself.”
According to 60 Minutes Australia, as of 2024, the siblings have rarely spoken in recent years, exchanging only a few seldom text messages.
As for Belle’s parents, Natalie died from multiple sclerosis in 2017. Meanwhile, Andrew reflected in the docuseries on one of his last conversations with Belle in which he came to realize “that Belle’s a pretty sad and depressed person.”
He added, “There’s no winners here. I mean, it’s hurt a lot of people, and also I feel that it’s also ruined Belle’s life for the rest of her life.”
“She is a very intelligent young lady, honestly, and she could’ve really went places instead of actually ruining her life,” Andrew continued.
