In 1993, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) and Drucilla Barber (Victoria Rowell) said, “I do” on Young and Restless. The groom surprised his bride with an impromptu ceremony held in the flower-festooned living room of Katherine’s mansion. Her wedding dress — a sheath of silk faille and satin-faced organza with a gathered, scallop-edged overskirt — was created in-house by the show’s costumer, Greg York, and was complemented by a satin-trimmed headpiece by David Bruce, while Neil looked dapper in his traditional tux. Neil’s Jabot colleague Brad stood up as the best man; Dru’s big sis, Olivia, served as matron of honor, and her spouse, Nathan, escorted the bride down the aisle. It was a family affair behind the scenes, as well; St. John’s real-life father, actor Christopher St. John, played the minister.

In 1994, Edmund Grey (John Callahan) and Maria Santos (Eva LaRue) wed on All My Children. Estimated to have cost $6,500, Maria’s stunning wedding dress was inspired by the 1950s designs of Dior and Balenciaga. Dixie Cooney served as the bride’s maid of honor, while Edmund selected his half brother, Dimitri Marick, to be his best man. The exterior location shots for the ceremony were filmed at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, New York.

In 2005 on General Hospital, Dillon Quartermaine (Scott Clifton) and Georgie Jones (Lindze Letherman) consummated their relationship as they reeled from Michael Corinthos’s apparent death. Georgie told Dillon, “I don’t need a fancy hotel room… I don’t need that perfect full moon, and I don’t need any of the other things that you see in those fancy movies. I just — I just need you now.”

In 2020 on General Hospital, Brad Cooper (Parry Shen, l., with Kin Shriner as Scotty Baldwin), who was facing jail time for his role in the swapping of Michael and Nelle’s son, Jonah, with Willow and Shiloh’s biological son, Wiley, decided to change his plea to guilty after Sonny Corinthos told him that if Brad did so, Sonny would not mete out his own punishment for how Brad’s actions had hurt his family. In the courtroom, the judge read off the charges (kidnapping, fraud) and both Lucas (Brad’s estranged husband) and Scott, his attorney, were stunned when Brad stood up and announced his guilty plea. After an emotional conversation between Brad and Lucas, Lucas removed his wedding ring and placed it on the table.

In 2021, Richard Burgi made his Young and Restless debut as Ashland Locke. Of his casting, Burgi — who had several soap roles under his belt already, the most recent being the role of Paul Hornsby on General Hospital — mused as a guest on Soap Opera Digest‘s podcast, Dishing With Digest, “How my name got bandied about, I have no idea, but they called and said, ‘There’s an offer for you to do Young and Restless, there’s really no big commitment, it’s super loose,’ and I said, ‘God, that sounds awesome.’ He added, “I love daytime hours and I love the challenge. It was nice to know that I’m still wanted in daytime.” Because of strict Covid safeguards, Burgi found his first day on the Y&R set to be “strange because I never got to really connect with anyone [since] we all have masks on.”
