In 1995 on Days of Our Lives, Bo Brady (Robert Kelker-Kelly) and Billie Reed (Lisa Rinna) said, “I do,” but the union wasn’t valid (which they learned later, after Princess Gina was confirmed to be Bo’s thought-to-be-dead wife, Hope Williams Brady). Bo told Billie, “You and I have traveled kind of a long and winding road, you know. On a snowy mountain side we pledged our love and our faith and our fidelity to each other. We felt God’s presence that night, just like we feel God’s presence tonight in this rebuilt church,” a reference to the fact that while possessed by Satan, Marlena had burned down the original house of worship. “I promise to love and to honor and to cherish you all the rest of the days of our lives.”

In 1998, Arianne Zucker, pictured with Jensen Ackles, ex-Eric, made her Days of Our Lives debut as Nicole Walker. Reflecting on her early days on the show to Soap Opera Digest in 2015, what stood out to Zucker was her camaraderie with her colleagues. “A lot of us were single girls: Ali [Sweeney, Sami], Krista Allen [Billie], Julianne Morris [Greta], and Kristian Alfonso [Hope] would peek in when she could. There were also a couple of girls who worked for the studio, so there was a big group of us, in front of the camera and behind, who would socialize. It was a fun time.”

In 2012, Phyllis Summers’s estranged father, George (Ken Howard), passed away after having a heart attack on Young and Restless. Before dying, George admitted to Phyllis that he had bilked clients of his out of their fortunes — and Phyllis’s sister, Avery, who had refused to believe that her dad could be guilty of such a crime, eavesdropped, learning the horrifying truth. This created a slight thaw between Phyllis and Avery; their relationship had been strained by Avery’s fervent belief in their father’s innocence.

In 2012, One Life to Live import Starr Manning’s (Kristen Alderson) life was irrevocably changed on General Hospital when her daughter, Hope Thornhart (Molly Sullivan), and her fiancé, Cole Thornhart, were killed after Johnny Zacchara shot out the tires of the car they were in. (Johnny was attempting to kill his grandfather, Anthony Zacchara). When the vehicle crashed, Michael leaped to action to try to rescue all three passengers, and managed to extract Starr, but could not get to Cole and Hope in time — the car exploded, killing father and daughter instantly.

In 2020, Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) was shocked when her longtime boyfriend, TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) proposed marriage to her. As they dined at the Metro Court, TJ squirmed when Molly went on a rant about how marriage is a product of the patriarchy and a “consumerist joke,” because he had already arranged for an engagement ring to be delivered to Molly with the dessert course. When the ring did arrive, Molly gaped at it. TJ made a strong pitch for them to wed, noting that he would always treat her as an equal. “Will you marry me?” he asked. Molly still said no.
