In 1987, pooches Reggie and Martha tied the knot on Days of Our Lives in a ceremony conducted by Robert LeClair (Robert Clary). “Mother” of the bride Calliope planned the affair, and the event was packed with animal attraction and drama, since Martha had a pup in the oven and there were some lingering questions about the paternity. The pianist played “(How Much is) that Doggie in the Window?” as Reggie, decked out in a dazzling top hat, took his place at the altar. Martha looked equally fetching. This was daytime’s first, and remains its only, canine nuptials.

In 1993, General Hospital‘s Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) found out she was pregnant with Serena, the child she was carrying as a surrogate for Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and his wife, Dominique Baldwin. Portrayer Herring was pregnant in real life at the time, as well; Serena was born on December 7, and Herring’s second son, Grady, was born in July.

In 2013, Katie Couric guest-starred on General Hospital as a doctor named Kelly, who tended to Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) after he was shot by his back-from-the-dead father, Stavros Cassadine. Scene partner Christopher praised Couric to Soap Opera Digest, saying, “That was great! It was a nice surprise. I’d only been there perhaps a week when they told me, ‘Oh, hey, Katie’s going to do a little bang-on here.’ I said, ‘Oh, cool!’ She wanted to do so well. She didn’t take it for granted at all. She wasn’t like, ‘Okay, I’ve only got an hour, can we hurry up and do this?’ She knew her lines and she had a plan of action as to how she wanted to play the character.”

In 2014, Cady McClain made her Young and Restless debut as Kelly Andrews, assuming the role from original portrayer Cynthia Watros. The actress enthused to Soap Opera Digest shortly after reporting to work, “It’s been beyond my wildest dreams. An amazing character, incredible writing, great actors to work with, the sets are great and all the producers are wonderful. It just couldn’t be better.” She added, “Y&R is truly this gem of a show. Everybody is watching out for each other and it’s a lovely place to work. So, I’m like crossing my fingers and toes that I will be able to stay there for a little while. That would be so fantastic.” Regarding her predecessor, she noted, “I have enormous respect for Cynthia. I think she is an incredible actress, and I have to say that I was a little daunted at the prospect of taking over the role from her.”
