Ali Larter made a name for herself in Hollywood as a Scream Queen, but to her two kids, Theodore and Vivienne, she’s still just mom.
The Final Destination star met her husband, actor Hayes MacArthur, on the set of National Lampoon’s Stoned Age in the early 2000s, and they began dating. While Ali admitted to Cosmopolitan that she “told [MacArthur] after three weeks that I wanted to marry him and that we could do it tomorrow,” they waited a few years and wed in 2009 before starting a family shortly after.
Son Theodore Hayes was born in December 2010, and daughter Vivienne Margaret followed in January 2015. As Ali adjusted to being a mom of two, she opened up about wanting to spend quality time with each of her kids. “It’s figuring out that balance and somehow trying to find some time for your husband and for work — and for yourself,” she told PEOPLE in May 2015.
The actors decided to make a big change in 2020 — moving their children from the only home they’d ever known in Los Angeles to the quieter world of Sun Valley, Idaho. By 2024, Ali was splitting her time between Idaho and Texas while filming her Paramount+ hit series, Landman, which she stars in as mother-of-two Angela Norris, though she noted they had different philosophies.
“We’re complete opposites when it comes to motherhood,” Ali told Schön! magazine in February 2025. “Angela’s approach is endearing because she’s trying, but it’s so far from the way I parent. For me, it was about trusting the process and embracing this very different perspective on motherhood.”
Here’s everything to know about Ali Larter’s kids, Theodore and Vivienne.

Ali and MacArthur welcomed their son Theodore “Teddy” Hayes MacArthur on Dec. 20, 2010.
At first, the Resident Evil star and MacArthur kept the pregnancy a secret. “It was a very private time for me and my husband and something that I just wasn’t ready to share, so we actually left the country for a while,” she told PEOPLE in July 2010.
When they returned, she enjoyed a baby shower surrounded by family and friends, including actresses Amy Smart, Busy Philipps and Nicole Sullivan. “It was an incredible day and I just felt so lucky to be surrounded by so many dear friends and family,” she told PEOPLE. “It was a very special day!”
After giving birth, Ali was quickly inspired by her son. In 2013, she released her Kitchen Revelry cookbook, full of recipes she and Theodore (who affectionately goes by Teddy) enjoyed together.
“I try to feed my son what we eat for dinner and expose him to really interesting, different foods,” she told PEOPLE about the then-2-year-old. “And if he doesn’t like it, it’s fine, it’s more about trying and thinking of food as a fun adventure.”
When it came time to welcome his little sister, Theodore stepped up to the challenge. “[Teddy] has exceeded my expectations in every way,” Ali told PEOPLE in March 2015. “He has been such a generous, kind, sweet big brother.”
At the same time, the actress was conscious of having to adjust to two children and prioritizing her son.

“I think for all moms it’s a learning curve figuring out how to do it and making sure there’s enough time for the older one,” she explained.
From a young age, Theodore had a big personality. The Heroes star previously shared that he was an “incredibly verbal, curious, bright little boy” who was growing up fast.
“Teddy is 5½ going on 14, it’s killing me. He just started kindergarten,” she told PEOPLE in October 2016. “He’s just a crazy, wild little boy.”
When the family eventually moved from California to Idaho in 2020, Ali revealed that Theodore wasn’t initially excited about the change. Still, he ultimately became accustomed to the slower lifestyle.
“Our life is so different there and it’s a small town, and it kind of holds you to a different type of accountability. It’s something that me and Hayes really wanted to do for our children, so we [moved],” Ali said on Live With Kelly and Mark in January 2025.
Though the Obsessed actress has mostly kept her kids out of the spotlight, she and her husband enjoy sharing glimpses of their childhoods on social media.
In June 2024, MacArthur posted a fun video with highlights of the summer that showed their son and daughter enjoying a fair, cracking a huge geode and jumping into a lake.

Ali and MacArthur welcomed their daughter Vivienne Margaret MacArthur on Jan. 15, 2015. Her middle name is a nod to her maternal grandmother, Margaret Larter.
“We couldn’t be more excited to share news of the arrival of Vivienne Margaret MacArthur,” Ali wrote on her website. “She came bearing gifts for her brother: Batman sheets and lots of gummy bears!!! 7.5 lbs. of love.”
The Legends star announced that she was expecting during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in August 2014.
“[Three years ago] I came on, and I was pregnant, and it went so well, and I said to my husband, ‘I’m going on Fallon, you know what that means — gotta get pregnant!’ ” she joked. “It’s so exciting.”
The differing personality between her two kids was quickly apparent, according to the Legally Blonde star.
“It’s amazing for me to see the difference between having a little girl and a little boy,” she told PEOPLE in August 2015. “My daughter is already so observant. You can give her a book and she will just sit and really look through it and touch it and explore it … she’s just like a sweet little angel.”

Larter continued, “Where my son was really like, ‘Look at me, talk to me, play with me, give me your attention.’ He is just a force of nature.”
Ali admitted she felt “bad” because Vivienne didn’t get “nearly as much” attention as her son did during the newborn days, especially because she promptly returned to work. Luckily, they didn’t mind tagging along when the actress needed to head out for a project.
“I brought my kids to the set of Pitch the other morning because when you’re working crazy hours, you have to find the time,” she told PEOPLE in October 2016.
“They love to sit in the makeup chair with me and Teddy gets tattoos put on and Vivienne chews on the makeup brushes,” Ali quipped. “Anytime I can squeeze in time with them really feeds me.”
As a working mom, the Varsity Blues alum considers it “an honor” to act like a role model to her daughter, exemplifying that she can be a multifaceted person someday, too.
“Showing her that she can go to work and do whatever she wants to do and feel creatively fulfilled and at the same time make time for the things you really cherish,” Ali explained.
Besides being on set, Vivienne has gotten to have lots of fun adventures with her family, including a 2021 visit to Chicago and a July 2022 trip to France. Ali has also shared several glimpses of her daughter spending time with horses.
