In 1993, Sarah Michelle Gellar debuted on All My Children as scheming Kendall Hart, the surprise firstborn daughter of Erica Kane. Gellar exited AMC in 1995, the same year she took home the Daytime Emmy as Outstanding Younger Actress. Gellar went on to success in prime-time (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and film (Cruel Intentions), and the role of Kendall was reintroduced in 2002, played by Alicia Minshew. Reflecting on her AMC run to Soap Opera Digest in 2002, Gellar noted, “I think one of the best things I learned from soaps was pace. Because the pace was so crazy, I never freak out now if I get a script at the last minute or worry if the blocking changes.”

In 2011, EJ DiMera (James Scott) and Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) wed for the second time on Days of Our Lives. It was at the ceremony, however, that EJ realized the beautiful stranger he had recently become smitten with on first sight was actually Nicole’s sister, Taylor! Even after remarrying Nicole, EJ found it impossible to resist his attraction to Taylor.

In 2012, just over a month after One Life to Live aired its final episode on ABC, Kristen Alderson (pictured with Chad Duell as Michael Corinthos) made her GH debut as her OLTL alter ego, Starr Manning, who she had played since 1998. She mused to Soap Opera Digest of the difference between OLTL and GH, “The energy is different, the cast is different, but this is so exciting for me. I was coming out to L.A. regardless for auditions and pilot season. I know getting a guest spot on Glee is like the biggest thing right now, but to me, being on General Hospital feels like a bigger deal. To share the screen with Maurice Benard [Sonny] is just so great.” The actress won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in 2013 for her work as Starr on GH, but was forced to stop playing Starr the following year due to a contract dispute between ABC and Prospect Park, the company that held the creative rights to the character. She soon returned as a different character, Kiki Jerome.

In 2015 on General Hospital, a fire broke out at Wyndemere during Spencer Cassadine’s (Nicolas Bechtel) birthday party, endangering his life, along with Emma Scorpio-Drake’s (Brooklyn Rae Silzer). Cameron Webber had accidentally set the blaze. Emma was rushed to safety, and Nikolas managed to extract Spencer from the flames, but the boy was critically injured and required life-saving surgery. He sustained severe burns, but ultimately made a full recovery.

In 2017, Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) and her stepson, Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye), had a frank talk about the forbidden attraction that had been boiling up between them, which had resulted in a kiss. Given her commitment to her husband and his to Brooke (they were engaged to be remarried at the time), Quinn and Ridge agreed that they needed to avoid one another as much as possible moving forward. “It’s probably best if you go back to hating me,” Quinn concluded. Ridge nodded, “It’s easier.”
